TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB 2015

SRC KICK-OFF PARTY on TUESDAY, JULY 7TH at 7PM
Join us to kick-off the summer right and Unmask at our SRC pizza party on July 7th at 7pm!  Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing Bingo and other fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes! All students entering grades 6-12 in September can join NBL’s summer reading club from July 7th to August 14th. As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Teen Yoga
Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 5-6pm
Improve your flexibility and reduce stress with yoga instructor Vicky Seff. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring your yoga mat to class.

Chess Club

Our chess club will meet this summer on Wednesdays, July 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th and August 5th & 12th. New players of all skill levels welcome!

Superhero Cupcakes

Join us to whip up some delicious superhero cupcakes from scratch! This class may contain food allergens.

Spiderman Quesadilla
Monday, July13th 4:30-5:30pm
We will make and decorate our own Spidey cheese quesadillas. Yum! This class may contain food allergens.

YA Coding
Tuesdays, July 14th & 21st 6:30-8:30pm
Learn the basics of computer language, code structure and implementation. Sharper Training Solutions will teach us how to write a script that will move objects on the screen and trigger movement of other objects.

Craft Buddies
Fridays, July 17th, 24th & 31st, 2 – 2:45pm
Volunteer to help young children create fun summer craft projects! Community service will be awarded.

Learn How to Draw Super Hero Workshop
Thursday, July 23rd 7-8:30pm
Comic artist Kelly Gordon will share tips and solid tools that will help you develop your comic drawing skills. All materials provided.

Beach Bag Book Club: Movie Party: Premier of “Paper Towns”
Thursday, July 23rd, 7pm
Join us at the Seaford Cinemas for a pre-release viewing of the movie Paper Towns. We will chat with author, Jen Calonita, and enjoy popcorn & soda. This event is sponsored by the Merrick, North Merrick and North Bellmore libraries. Registration required.

Captain America Pizza
Monday, July 27th, 7-8pm
Learn how to make delicious pizza from scratch, and then decorate it in true superhero fashion! This class may contain food allergens.

Fashion Design Workshop
Tuesday, July 28th, 7-8pm
Learn to use fashion figures to draw your own fashion designs.  Add fabrics to make swatches or a 3-D collage.  Get project inspiration and instruction from a fashion designer! All materials provided.

Draw Your Own Anime T-Shirt Workshop
Thursday, July 30th, 7-8:30pm
Join comic artist Kelly Gordon to draw popular or original character art work to be transferred on a white t-shirt. You provide the t-shirt.

YA Movie: Insurgent
Tuesday, August 4th, 3:30pm

Superhero Decorated Cookies
Monday, August 10th, 5-6pm
Create Spiderman web or Green Lantern cookies using frosting, cookie icing, fondant, candies, and other treats. This class may contain food allergens.

Beach Bag Book Club
Wednesday, August 12th, 6:30PM
Join our favorite teen author, Jen Calonita to discuss fun summer reads with famous authors! Bestselling author Sarah Rees Brennan will join us in August. Sarah is the author of the Demon’s Lexicon trilogy and the co-author, with Justine Larbalestier, of Team Human. Sarah has also contributed her writing talent to the New York Times bestselling series, the “Bane Chronicles” and will discuss it with us. Our club will meet at the Merrick Library at 2279 Merrick Avenue.

No Sew Superhero Costumes
Thursday, August 13th 5-6pm
We will have fun learning how to make a superhero costume using felt, large superhero cutouts for symbols, hot glue gun and fabric scissors to make it. We will donate these costumes to a Children’s Hospital. Community service will be awarded.

SUMMER READING CLUB FINALE PARTY
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14th, 4pm
Join us to celebrate the finale of the Summer Reading Club! If you submitted at least 1 book review this summer you will get an exclusive invitation to the SRC Finale Party! We will have pizza, ice cream and the GAME TRUCK! End your summer with a bang!

Registration for all SRC programs begins July 1st.You must register for all programs in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk. Young Adult Programs are open to all North Bellmore patrons entering grades 6 - 12 in the fall. BEACH BAG BOOK CLUB
Wednesday, June 10th, 6:30pm
Do you like to read? Interested in meeting famous authors? We have the perfect book club for you! We have once again teamed up with the Merrick and N. Merrick Library to bring back the Beach Bag Book Club. At each event, hosted by our favorite author Jen Calonita, you will get to discuss a book with not only Ms. Calonita, but with the author of the book itself! We are starting our club off with a bang, hosting best selling authors, Carolyn Mackler and Jenny Han. You will not want to miss this event! Everyone that signs up gets a beach bag to tote all of your favorite books around in this summer. The event will take place at the Merrick Library. There will be snacks and raffles. Sign up in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk. Open to grades 6 +

CANVAS ART FOR DAD

Special Needs Children and Teens
Please join us on Tuesday, June 30th at 7:30pm for a Coffee House for Parents/Caregivers of Special Needs Children and Teens. Our goal is to make special needs programming/services more accessible to the special needs population. Meet with Young Adult Librarian, Jessica Tymecki to discuss our plans and listen to your needs.  We are always looking for ways to help our community so please feel free to come in with any ideas you may have for us. We are always happy to help!
