CHESS CLUB
Children (3rd-6th Grades)     7:00-7:55pm

Our chess club will meet this summer on Wednesdays, July 11th, 18th, 25th & August 1st, 8th and 15th. New players welcome! Register on any night the club meets.

BEACH BAG BOOK CLUB
Wednesdays, July 25th & August 22nd 4:15pm - 5:30pm
This summer our favorite teen author, Jen Calonita, invites you and your friends to join our super fun Beach Bag Book Club. At each event, we will discuss the books with not only Ms. Calonita, but with the author of the book itself. Our July books are She’s So Not Worth It by Kieran Scott and The Darlings In Love by Melissa Kantor and in August we’ll read Belles by Jen Calonita and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jen E. Smith. Everyone that signs up for the BBB Club gets a beach bag to tote all of your favorite books around in this summer. Our club will meet at the Merrick Library at 2279 Merrick Avenue in Merrick.

VIDEO GAME DESIGN
Fridays, July 13th & July 20th 2-4pm
In this two session hands-on class, you will get an introduction to the basics of video game creation.  Learn how to design a video game and write a program.  You will construct rooms and doorways, add a player, objects, textures, colors, lighting and more.  We will compile the finished program and learn how to make changes and correct errors. Grade 5 +

FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS
Monday, July 16th 4-5pm
Learn how to make a colorful friendship bracelet and keep an organized string box. A demonstration will be done and then you will make your own. $5.00 material fee

SPORTSCASTING 101
Tuesday, July 17th 6:30-8:30pm
Learn how to become a sportscaster in this hands-on class with Vinny Micucci, a pro who has a nearly 15 years experience covering sports events on radio and TV.

PIZZA PINWHEELS
Monday, July 23rd 6-7pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to make delicious pizza pinwheels! We will make the dough from scratch, add the cheese, sauce, and pepperoni then roll it up and bake at home. Yum!

TIE-DYE PILLOWCASES
Tuesday, July 24th 7-9pm
Turn a pillowcase into a colorful work of art and have fun doing it! We'll supply the pillowcase; you supply the inspiration.

CREATIVE WRITING WITH MATT BLACKSTONE
Wednesday, July 25th 3:30-4:30pm
Learn to write like a pro! Join local author, Matt Blackstone to perfect your writing skills.

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP
Thursday, July 26th 6:45-8:45pm
Attend our popular workshop with Registered Nurses, Joann Tanck and Georgette Basso, and become a professional babysitter. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Please bring a doll to the class.

CUPCAKE DECORATING
Friday, July 27th 2:30-3:30pm
Create beach themed cupcakes for a delicious summer snack! We will decorate cupcakes using frosting, cookies, and candies.

OREO DIRT CAKE
Friday, August 3rd 2:30-3:30pm
In this hands-on class you will make a scrumptious dirt cake. This is a delicious treat!

DREAM JOURNALS
Tuesday, August 7th 4-5pm
If you're going to Own the Night this summer, then you'll need a dream journal to write down your dreams. All materials supplied.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?
Thursday, August 9th 7-8pm
Whether you’ve never danced a day in your life, or dance everyday of it., come and join Miss Marisa for fun and exercise at a level that allows everybody to learn something new! No special equipment or shoes required.

TACO NIGHT @ THE LIBRARY
Tuesday, August 14th 6-7pm
Miss Kathy will teach us how to season chicken and prepare a delicious and nutritious taco. There will be a choice of soft and hard tacos, and lots of toppings!

DECORATIVE LOCKER MIRROR
Friday, August 17th 2:30-3:30pm
Customize your very own framed mirror for your locker. You can paint, decorate, and
personalize it as a gift or room accessory. $5 material fee

Teen Summer Reading Program

“OWN THE NIGHT” - July 10th – August 21st
Join us to kick-off the summer right at our annual summer pizza party on July 10th at 5:30pm! Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes! All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club starting July 10th. As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!
